Low Cost Spay/Neuter Programs For Your Pet

Spay/Neuter of your pet is crucial in keeping your pet healthy, being a good neighbor, and in keeping down the number of homeless and heartlessly abandoned animals. MCAR offers low cost spay/neuter for your pet. The cost for male cats is $43, for female cats and all dogs the price is $60. Call or stop by the shelter during business hours to make arrangements. If you have proof of vaccinations for your pet please bring them for us to copy. There will be a $10 charge for rabies vaccination if needed. Distemper booster shots are available for $10. Pets must travel in a hard shell plastic carrier. If you need to rent one from us the cost is $5. All arrangements and payment must be made in advance. Your pet's appointment will be another date. Our veterinarian can spay or neuter puppies and kittens at age 12 weeks and 2.5 lbs.

Please know we also offer low cost spay/neuter for free roaming or trap/neuter/release cats. Ask us for more information.

Rabies Clinics

We schedule low-cost rabies clinics every few months in the county. Please watch our Facebook page or call us for the next date in your area.

Before you adopt, please consider these questions:

Do you understand the importance of spay/neutering your pet and affordable options for the procedure?

Are you prepared to devote the time a pet demands for love, companionship, exercise?

Can you provide good quality food, comfortable shelter, health care?

Do you understand routine health care needs?

Are you willing to take the time to understand your pet?

If you can answer 'Yes' to these questions, we have someone we'd like you to meet!

HOW TO ADOPT A PET

In order to adopt a pet from MCAR, you must fill out an Adoption Contract and submit it. Adoption Contracts are available at the shelter.

Out of Area Adoptions

Yes, we do adopt out of our area. Unfortunately, we are not able to ship animals to you. If you are traveling to meet a shelter pet, please make arrangements before you make the trip. Call the shelter to make sure the pet is still available, 828 765-6952.

Fees & General Information

Our adoption fee is $85 for dogs; $30 kittens; name your own price for cats, which includes spay/neuter, de-worming, vaccinations (including rabies shot), and a microchip ID. Our vets spay and neuter both puppies and kittens. Some of our available pets may already be altered and available to go home that day. Some pets will require spay/neuter upon adoption. All pets are spayed or neutered before adoption. No exceptions.

If you are planning to adopt an animal from MCAR, you should email or drop off a completed adoption contract to the shelter. The staff will then contact you to discuss adoption and authorize payment. Do not submit payment via Paypal before receiving authorization to do so from staff.
