Mica Gallery Hosts Fundraiser in Support of MCAR Animals
From March 6 – April 4 Mica Gallery will host Art for Animals’ Sake, their annual fundraising sale of art gifted for Mitchell County Animal Rescue. The opening event will be held Friday, March 6, from 4:00-7:00 pm. A $10 suggested MCAR donation will be requested at the door. “We love our pets — those that are rescued or those full-bred. We want all animals to be treated with care,” says Robbie Bell, Mica’s President.
“Funds raised from the Mica event will go directly toward food, veterinary care, medications, spay and neuter services, and facility maintenance,” says Katie Elkins, MCAR’s executive director. “These funds help us respond quickly when animals are injured, neglected, or in need of immediate shelter and care. In the course of a year, MCAR assists over 1000 animals, primarily dogs and cats, and this year we had two hairless rats, six goats, a rabbit, and a lizard. We have rescued pigs, sheep, and horses in the past.”
Artists and collectors affiliated with Mica contribute art from their collections and studios to benefit MCAR. “Fundraising events like Mica Gallery’s benefit are essential to our work,” continues Elkin. “As a small, rural nonprofit, MCAR depends on community support to meet daily and emergency animal care needs. Community-based fundraising is central to sustaining our services.”
