Yardley’s Playroom

Mitchell County Animal Rescue is working to build a new cat playroom to address a growing crisis in our shelter. Our current facility is more than 30 years old and no longer provides the space or enrichment needed to properly care for the increasing number of cats and kittens entering our doors each year. We no longer meet the minimum requirements for our cats to be outside of their kennels to play. Without a dedicated play and socialization area, many cats spend far too much time confined to kennels, leading to stress, illness, and reduced adoptability.

The new cat playroom, known as Yardley’s Playroom, will provide a safe, enriching environment where cats can exercise, socialize, and interact with potential adopters in a calm, home-like setting. This space will improve both physical and emotional wellbeing, help reduce overcrowding stress, and increase successful adoptions. It will also allow volunteers and visitors to better connect with cats, creating more positive outcomes for the animals in our care.

Every year, Mitchell County Animal Rescue saves over 1,200 animals, but our aging facility limits what we can provide. A dedicated cat playroom is an important step toward creating a safer, healthier future for the cats who depend on us.

A conservative estimate of the cost for this addition is $60,000.

Beds For Our Dogs

Mitchell County Animal Rescue is in urgent need of 40 new Kuranda beds for the dogs in our care. These raised beds provide comfort, support, and a clean sleeping space for shelter dogs while helping protect them from cold floors, dampness, and pressure sores. Durable and easy to sanitize, Kuranda beds are an essential part of keeping our kennels healthy and comfortable for hundreds of dogs each year. We use the 40x 25 size in our kennels.

Many of our current beds are worn out after years of constant use, and with our shelter regularly operating at or above capacity, we simply do not have enough for every dog who needs one. A comfortable place to rest reduces stress and anxiety, helping dogs stay healthier and making them more adoptable while they wait for loving homes.

Your support can make a direct difference in the daily lives of shelter dogs. By helping us replace and expand our supply of Kuranda beds, you are giving rescued dogs comfort, security, and a better quality of life during their stay at Mitchell County Animal Rescue.

Thank you!

Thank you so very much for helping us at this difficult time!
